Baseball Recap: George West Has No Trouble Against Mathis

George West was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mathis on Tuesday. The Longhorns blew past the Pirates 14-6. The Longhorns not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th.

George West got a great performance from Vance Partridge as he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Partridge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Trevor Poe was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dylan Thomisee, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.

George West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

George West now has a winning record of 15-14-2. As for Mathis, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George West will take on Aransas Pass at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mathis, they will head out to square off against West Oso at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
