Lawrence County has gone a perfect 10-0 against Floyd Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m.
Lawrence County easily dispatched Symmes Valley on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bulldogs fell just short of Boyd County by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered against the Lions since April 22, 2019.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Floyd Central). They blew past Magoffin County 16-6 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Jaguars have beaten the Hornets on their field since May 8, 2019.
Whitley Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hall was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cadyn Roberson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Reagan Laferty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Floyd Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Floyd Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Lawrence County, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
Everything went Lawrence County's way against Floyd Central in their previous meeting back in March, as Lawrence County made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
