Baseball Game Preview: Francis W. Parker Colonels vs. Proviso West Panthers

The Francis W. Parker Colonels will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Proviso West Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Proviso West took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Francis W. Parker, who comes in off a win.

Francis W. Parker is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Proviso East. Francis W. Parker was the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over Proviso East on Wednesday.

Nathan Pantoja made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Hamid, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Julian Pantoja was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Proviso West came up short against Northridge on Friday and fell 11-8. Even though they lost, the Panthers' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Logan Komperda was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Andres Becerra, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Proviso West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
