Baseball Recap: West Iredell Has No Trouble Against Statesville

West Iredell won the last time they faced Statesville and things went their way on Friday too. West Iredell was the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over Statesville. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Michael Davis looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since March 1st.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Austin Arrowood, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trae Clyburn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

West Iredell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

West Iredell has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. Statesville is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, West Iredell will welcome North Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Statesville, they will square off against St. Stephens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Stephens' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Statesville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
