Basketball Recap: Central Chargers vs. Washington County Golden Hawks
Central came into Friday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-58 victory over the Washington County Golden Hawks on Friday. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 63-54 win the Golden Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.
Despite the loss, Washington County still got an impressive performance from Brashod Heggs, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and six boards. What's more, Heggs also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Jusden Culpepper was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.
Central's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Washington County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-53 loss against Westside on the 18th. As for Washington County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-57 win against Johnson County on the 14th.
