Football Game Preview: Weddington Warriors vs. Grimsley Whirlies + How To Watch

The Weddington Warriors will challenge the Grimsley Whirlies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Weddington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games.

Weddington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down Independence 21-6.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weddington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brody Anson, who rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Anson has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelson Tate, who rushed for 49 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Weddington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Weddington didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as KD Cotton, Jon Manley, and TJ Davis picked up one apiece. Ace Clements was another major factor on D, making eight total tackles and defending four passes.

Meanwhile, Grimsley faced Reagan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Whirlies enjoyed a cozy 24-7 win over the Raiders. The victory continues a trend for the Whirlies in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.

Grimsley's win bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Weddington, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.

Weddington couldn't quite get it done against Grimsley in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 as they fell 35-23. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
