Softball Game Preview: Varela Vipers vs. Everglades Gators

The Varela Vipers will face off against the Everglades Gators at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Varela has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Varela fell victim to Braddock and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Vipers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Everglades brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They walked away with a 21-18 victory over Miramar on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Gators as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Vi Quain, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Another player making a difference was Genesis Medina-Diaz, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Everglades kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 22 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Everglades' victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Varela, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
