Softball Game Preview: Northern Potter Panthers vs. Port Allegany Gators

The Northern Potter Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Port Allegany Gators at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Port Allegany took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Northern Potter, who comes in off a win.

Northern Potter's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Johnsonburg 6-0. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bradford hit Port Allegany with a eight-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gators fell 15-11 to the Owls.

Alayna McKervey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Emily Errick also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Northern Potter pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Port Allegany, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Northern Potter took their victory against Port Allegany when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
