Preview: Gaylord Blue Devils vs. St.Ignace Saints
Gaylord is 4-0 against St.Ignace since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Gaylord Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the St.Ignace Saints at 7:15 p.m. Gaylord will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 284th, while St.Ignace is ranked 78th).
Gaylord's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cadillac. That's two games in a row now that Gaylord has lost by exactly 12 points.
Gaylord's defeat came about despite a quality game from Luke Gelow, who scored 36 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 76.6% of Gaylord's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cayden Keck was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Gaylord struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, even though Newberry scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, St.Ignace still came out on top. St.Ignace enjoyed a cozy 69-55 victory over Newberry. 69 seems to be a good number for St.Ignace as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Gaylord's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for St.Ignace, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Gaylord skirted past St.Ignace 67-65 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gaylord since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
