Basketball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 64-46 to the Newman Catholic Fighting Cardinals. If the Bluejays were looking for revenge after losing 56-49 to the Fighting Cardinals when the teams met back in December of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Newman Catholic, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens will host Pittsville at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Newman Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rib Lake at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
