Deering is 1-9 against Thornton Academy since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rams will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Neither Deering nor Thornton Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.
Biddeford hit Deering with a four-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams fell 6-2 to the Tigers.
Finn Ridge made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That hit marked the first that he has got this season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Thornton Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Falmouth 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since May 16, 2024.
Ben Indorf looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Cam Cyr was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Thornton Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Falmouth struck out nine times.
Deering's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Thornton Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-0-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Deering has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
