Football Recap: Verdugo Hills Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Verdugo Hills can now relate to. They came up short against the Roybal Titans on Friday, falling 34-14. The Dons were not able to make up for their loss to the Titans from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, Verdugo Hills still got an impressive performance from Aiden Mejia, who rushed for 72 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards.

Roybal had a senior duo take command as Isaac Hinson picked up 154 receiving yards and three TDs and Joseph Lara threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Lara is becoming a predictor of the Titans' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Anthony Mena was in the mix as well, providing Roybal with one score.

Verdugo Hills has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Roybal, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Verdugo Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Roybal, they will face off against Hawkins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' defense has only allowed 14.9 points per game this season, so the Titans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
