Softball Preview: Grovetown Warriors vs. Alcovy Tigers
Grovetown and Alcovy are an even 5-5 against one another since August of 2019, but likely not for long. The Grovetown Warriors will be playing at home against the Alcovy Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Grovetown is coming into the match hot, having won their last 19 games.
Last Tuesday, everything went Grovetown's way against Heritage as Grovetown made off with a 15-2 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
Josalyn Sergent made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in September of 2023. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Grovetown let Sam Story and Iman Wright loose on the outfield. Story scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Wright went 1-for-1 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlet Gibb, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Alcovy suffered their biggest loss since August 15th on Thursday. They came up short against Loganville, falling 10-3. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Red Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Alcovy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Williams, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Grovetown's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. As for Alcovy, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
