Football Recap: Sterling Comes Up Short

Sterling extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-3. They took a blow against the Silver Lake Mustangs, falling 53-7. The Jets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-0.

Brody Horstman threw for 80 yards on nine of 17 attempts. Bryce Goracke was his top target, picking up 41 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Tayvon Barclay rushed for 30 yards.

As for Silver Lake, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.8 points on average over those games.

Silver Lake had a senior duo take command as Beau Bonifas threw for 186 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes and Jaxon Tenbensel gained 109 total yards and two touchdowns. Those five passing touchdowns set a new season-high mark for Bonifas. Brody Knehans was another key player, picking up 48 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Sterling and Silver Lake will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Jets will take on rival Diller-Odell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Silver Lake is set to challenge their familiar foe Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
