Baseball Recap: Southampton Academy Comes Up Short

Southampton Academy was the 8-5 winner over Amelia Academy when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Raiders fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ethan Webb put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

Webb wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Cushing, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Grant Applewhite was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Southampton Academy's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 8-3. As for Amelia Academy, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will take on Isle of Wight Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Amelia Academy, they will square off against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
