Baseball Recap: Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Central Catholic had lost five straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-11 to make it six. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine-Richland Rams. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 4-1 to the Rams when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Central Catholic got a good showing from Liam Pekarsky, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Pekarsky has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Yaniel Heredia was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Johnny Bonacci was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

As for Pine-Richland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On Pine-Richland's side, Drew Boivin looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Anthony Mengine was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Heckert, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Coming up, Central Catholic will head out on the road to challenge South Fayette at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pine-Richland, they will welcome Knoch at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
