Basketball Recap: Hermitage Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Hermitage, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They secured a 46-42 W over the Varina Blue Devils on Monday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Blue Devils, too.

Despite the loss, Varina still got an impressive performance from Kaliyah Straughter, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards. Straughter is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Makaylen Hilliard, who posted eight points.

Hermitage's win bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Varina, their loss was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14.

Hermitage and Varina could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Hermitage will challenge Godwin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 165 places (245 vs. 80). Similarly, Varina (ranked 317th) will meet Henrico (ranked 68th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
