Basketball Recap: The O'neal School Starts Season with Victory at Home

The O'Neal School took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They blew past the Fayetteville Academy Eagles 39-15. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

The O'Neal School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kennedi Hamner led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Those 20 points gave Hamner a new career-high. Sofie Itegie was another key player, putting up six points along with ten steals and six boards.

The O'Neal School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

The O'Neal School and Fayetteville Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Falcons see the court they'll take on Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill at 5:30 p.m. on the 20th. As for Fayetteville Academy, their break will end when they face Wayne Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
