Basketball Game Preview: Overhills Jaguars vs. Cummings Cavaliers

The Overhills Jaguars and the Cummings Cavaliers will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

If Overhills beats Cummings with 68 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Overhills enjoyed a cozy 68-50 win over Southern Alamance on Thursday. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Patriots are ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Overhills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ja?Von Motta out in front who posted 15 points along with six assists and four steals. Those six assists gave Motta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshaun Barton, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 18 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Overhills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cummings). They came out on top against Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy on Thursday by a score of 71-57 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Cavaliers with their most commanding win of the season.

The win got Cummings back to even at 4-4. As for Overhills, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
