Softball Recap: Athens Wildcats vs. Central Columbia Bluejays

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Western Wayne, Athens was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Central Columbia Bluejays a 15-0 shutout. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bluejays recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Maci Campbell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kendall Galasso was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Hailey Smith also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Athens' record is now 15-4. As for Central Columbia, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-5.

As of now, neither Athens nor the Bluejays have any future games scheduled.
