Basketball Recap: Speedway Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Madelynn Matelic and Macy Delisle

Speedway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Indian Creek Braves on the road by a 51-37 margin. While losing is never fun, the Sparkplugs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Braves are ranked 100th).

Speedway's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Macy DeLisle, who posted 12 points and four steals, and Madelynn Matelic, who put up 12 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalissa Jackson-Dietzer, who earned three points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Speedway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Jasmine Day went supernova for Indian Creek, going 6 of 9 on her way to 18 points along with seven assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave Day a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Sichting, who had five points in addition to 12 boards and five assists.

Speedway's record is now 3-9. As for Indian Creek, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-4.

Speedway will challenge Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Indian Creek, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mooresville at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th.
