Football Recap: Pius X Thunderbolts vs. Waverly Vikings
If Pius X was riding high fresh off their 40-0 takedown of Beatrice last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pius X Thunderbolts fell to the Waverly Vikings 31-27. The Thunderbolts lost against the Vikings in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 38-8 score last time.
Despite the loss, Pius X still got an impressive performance from Joseph Andreasen, who rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Pius X didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Alex Weber.
Nathan Axmann continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Waverly, rushing for 244 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 38 receiving yards. Those 244 rushing yards gave Axmann a new career-high.
Pius X now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Waverly, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
