Baseball Game Preview: West Potomac Wolverines vs. South County Stallions

West Potomac and South County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The West Potomac Wolverines will welcome the South County Stallions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

After dropping their season opener at home, South County is headed out to face a Wolverines squad ready to give their home crowd a win. West Potomac took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Springfield on Tuesday.

Austin Dean was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

Dean wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Barrett Baker, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-1. Those three stolen bases gave Baker a new career-high.

Meanwhile, South County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 14-8 to Lake Braddock.

West Potomac took their victory against South County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will West Potomac repeat their success, or does South County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
