Softball Recap: Mcgregor Beats Clifton for Their Tenth Straight Win

McGregor had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Monday. They put the hurt on the Clifton Cubs with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 13 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Emma Knox made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, McGregor got a massive performance out of Addyson Todd, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Todd is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Layla Goff was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

McGregor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

McGregor pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Clifton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. McGregor is set to challenge their familiar foe Troy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.7, the Trojans 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Clifton will face off against rival West at 6:00 p.m. on the 15th.
