Softball Recap: Syracuse Sets Scoring Season-High Against Layton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Syracuse). They put the hurt on the Layton Lancers with a sharp 18-12 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jazmine Prathan and Grace Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Prathan fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-5, while Thomas fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Oaklee Derrickson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Syracuse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Syracuse's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Layton, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Syracuse will face off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Layton, they will challenge Herriman at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
