Baseball Recap: Mooresville Makes It 17 in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Mooresville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Perry Meridian Falcons a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. The one-run effort marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hudson DeVaughan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Denny, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Mooresville pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Perry Meridian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mooresville will square off against Southport at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Perry Meridian, they will challenge Covenant Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The last six games the Warriors have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
