Football Recap: Jayden Thomas Leads Buena's Defense on Friday + How To Watch

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against ALA - Gilbert North, Buena was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took down the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers 42-28. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Michael Lujan was his usual excellent self, rushing for 233 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Ricardo Brooks also helped out with an impressive 150 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Buena was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Buena didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Jayden Thomas led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Buena got some further help from Cooper Kraus: he made 18 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

When it comes to explaining why Tucson High Magnet School lost, don't look at Noah Chanez. Despite the final result, he picked up 113 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 56 yards and a pair of scores. Chanez was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Malaki Hiadzi Cunningham, who picked up 131 receiving yards and one TD.

Buena's record now sits at 3-1. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Buena wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 52-25 loss against Marana on the 26th. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-8 victory against Vista Grande on the 26th.
