Baseball Recap: Three Straight Home Wins for Englewood

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against D'Evelyn, Englewood was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Middle Park Panthers by a score of 7-2. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Grant Pebbles made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Englewood is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise. Pebbles was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Ethan Lort was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Rj Cullyford, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Englewood pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 10.33 strikeouts in those games compared to only three in the others. As for Middle Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
