Baseball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Garinger

Independence's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They never let the Garinger Wildcats get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Patriots this season.

Brian Crowder made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Crowder was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. Independence is undefeated when Crowder posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Independence got a massive performance out of Kyson Jones, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Jones is becoming a predictor of Independence's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Don Thomas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win snapped Independence's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record. As for Garinger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Independence beat Garinger by a score of 24-6 later that day.
