Baseball Recap: Gallup's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Aztec, Gallup was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Shiprock Chieftains. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bengals as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jhalil Denetclaw made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has become a key player for Gallup: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-16 otherwise. Denetclaw was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Kylin Daniels was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

Gallup's win bumped their record up to 5-16. As for Shiprock, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-15.

Gallup has already played their next match, an 8-2 loss against Miyamura on the 26th. As for Shiprock, they will face off against Kirtland Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
