Baseball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wesley Chapel, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. The Mustangs have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Mitchell got a good showing from Cade Vermillion, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Mitchell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Aponte, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Mitchell's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Wesley Chapel, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Mitchell will head out to challenge Tarpon Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.8, the Spongers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Wesley Chapel, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
