Baseball Recap: Platteview Continues Home Dominance on Friday

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Platteview and Nebraska City have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. Platteview's pitcher stepped up to hand Nebraska City a 10-0 shutout. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.

Platteview got a great performance from Michael Quinn as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Quinn a new career-low in hits (zero).

At the plate, Cash Porter was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Dylan Thomas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Platteview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nebraska City only posted an OBP of .167.

Platteview pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Nebraska City, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Platteview is set to challenge their familiar foe Bennington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Platteview 1.4, Bennington 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Nebraska City will square off against rival Auburn at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
