Basketball Game Preview: The Covenant Eagles vs. Hampton Roads Academy Navigators

Having just played yesterday, The Covenant Eagles will get right back to it and host the Hampton Roads Academy Navigators at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Covenant is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

The Covenant is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since February 1, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 win over Highland Springs.

Meanwhile, Hampton Roads Academy suffered their biggest loss since February 28, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 81-58 to Norfolk Christian. The defeat continues a trend for the Navigators in their matchups with the Ambassadors: they've now lost seven in a row.

The Covenant will need to focus on slowing down Kenzie Cooper, one of several Hampton Roads Academy players who made an impact when they last played. She went 12-for-30 on her way to 29 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cooper a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Nalani Carter, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points along with six boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Hampton Roads Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Hampton Roads Academy's loss dropped their record down to 17-3. As for The Covenant, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

The Covenant took their win against Hampton Roads Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 70-47. Will The Covenant repeat their success, or does Hampton Roads Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
