Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only University School walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Glenville Tarblooders on Thursday. The Preppers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Aaron Kane looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, Cameron Ryan and Sal Prolizo did most of the damage at the plate: Ryan went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Prolizo went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI. University School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
University School has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Glenville, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Looking ahead, University School will head out to take on Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Preppers 3, the Tigers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Glenville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
