Basketball Game Preview: Telluride Miners vs. Nucla Mustangs

The Telluride Miners are taking a road trip to challenge the Nucla Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Telluride is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Telluride was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-50 to Ridgway.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Nucla, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 65-48 victory over Ouray on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Telluride better keep an eye on Brycen Rummel. He was instrumental in Nucla's win, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropping a triple-double with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists. Rummel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 38 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Austin Garvey, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 16 points.

Nucla was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Ouray's also-impressive total of 13.

Nucla's record now sits at 15-7. As for Telluride, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Telluride came up short against Nucla when the teams last played on February 7th, falling 66-54. Can Telluride avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
