Softball Recap: Helena's Winning Streak Snapped at 12 Games

Helena dropped their record down to 17-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins. They fell 8-5 to the Gallatin Raptors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raptors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 back in April.

Faith Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dakota Lieberg was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Gallatin, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.

On Gallatin's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Olivia Klemann gave up five earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Kelly Coon was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Parker Stevens, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Helena will take on Big Sky at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bengals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. Gallatin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
