Softball Game Preview: Houston Tigers vs. Liberty Eagles

Houston is a perfect 3-0 against Liberty since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Houston has four straight wins, Liberty has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Houston proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Willow Springs 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 6th.

Lilly Kincaid spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and nine unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Houston got a massive performance out of Gracyn McNiell, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases McNiell has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Katy Evans, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Liberty's offense. They lost 15-0 to Plato on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Liberty's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Houston, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.

Everything went Houston's way against Liberty in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Houston made off with a 15-9 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
