Basketball Recap: Atchison Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After losing to Valley Falls the last time they met, Atchison decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Atchison Phoenix took down the Valley Falls Dragons 50-32 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Phoenix as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Atchison found their leader in freshman Zaryah Burge, who went 8 for 10 en route to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Burge. Another player making a difference was Alondra Herrera, who posted six points along with seven boards and six steals.

Several Dragons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lily Brown, who put up six points and five rebounds.

Atchison's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Valley Falls, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Atchison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-38 win against Atchison County on the 1st. As for Valley Falls, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 48-40 loss against Perry-Lecompton on the 1st.
