Football Game Preview: Springfield Millers vs. Willamette Wolverines

The Springfield Millers will challenge the Willamette Wolverines at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Springfield nor Willamette posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

On Friday, Springfield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 12-6 to Sheldon.

Springfield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kailie Hill, who rushed for 89 yards and one TD on only nine carries, and Kennedi Cofey, who gained 138 total yards.

Springfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Hill and Aliyah Roldan, who each picked up one interception apiece.

Meanwhile, Willamette fell victim to Marist and their airtight defense on Thursday. They lost 26-0 to the Spartans. The defeat leaves the Wolverines still looking for their first win of the season.

Springfield's record is now 2-8. As for Willamette, their record now sits at 0-7.

Everything came up roses for Springfield against Willamette in their previous matchup back in April, as the squad secured a 39-6 victory. Do the Millers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolverines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
