Basketball players post big numbers early on.
The 2009 national cross country champion, Lukas Verzbicas of
Sandburg (Orland Park),
will be among three Chicago-area runners who will compete in the 2010
Foot Locker Cross Country Championships on Dec. 11 at Balboa Park in San
Diego.
Verzbicas had the best time in the Midwest Regional, at 14 minutes, 44 seconds.
All qualified for the championship races are Jack Driggs of
York (Elmhurst) (No. 5 in the Midwest Regional, 15:06) in the boys race and Kayla Beattie of
Woodstock (No. 6 in the Midwest, 17:33) in the girls race.
BIG BASKETBALL PERFORMANCES BEGINAkeem Springs of Waukegan scored 31 points, leading the Bulldogs to a 74-58 win over Maine West. Springs hit his first eight shots and had scored 21 by halftime.
In girls basketball, Haley Videckis, a junior, scored 23 points, leading unbeaten
Bartlett (6-0) to a 68-64 victory over Waubonsie Valley.
