Softball Recap: Dowagiac Extends Home Winning Streak to 16

Dowagiac had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past the Constantine Falcons 18-7. Considering the Chieftains have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Marlie Carpenter and Charleigh Reed did most of the damage at the plate: Carpenter got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Reed went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Reed a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bree Behnke, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Dowagiac hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.

Dowagiac's win was their 16th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Constantine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-6.

Dowagiac and Constantine should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Chieftains will take on Berrien Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 352). Meanwhile, Constantine (ranked 85th) will meet Centreville (ranked 275th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
