Hueneme hasn't had much luck against Foothill Tech recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hueneme Vikings will face off against the Foothill Tech Dragons at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hueneme made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Carpinteria, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Hueneme blew past Carpinteria 12-4 on Tuesday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
Jaucelynn Ayala and Delilah Pereyra were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Ayala didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Pereyra tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ayala has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Ayala scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Pereyra scored three runs and stole Five bases. while going 3-for-4. Those hits were Pereyra's first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Roxanna Silva, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Citlalli (CC) Cardoso-Lopez, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Foothill Tech, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in February. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Carpinteria an 18-0 shutout last Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.
Jaelyn Perez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Tyler Trigo was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Morales, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Foothill Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hueneme is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 2.25 in the others. The win got Foothill Tech back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hueneme has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Foothill Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hueneme might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Foothill Tech when the teams last played back in February. Can Hueneme avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
