Baseball Recap: Lyons Comes Up Short

Lyons had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 6-4 to make it five. They lost 10-0 to the Pratt Fighting Frogs. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Lions were not able to get on the board.

Lyons saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Isaac, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Pratt, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Pratt's side, Josiah Schmidt made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Schmidt was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Pratt got a massive performance out of Cresten Pore, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that Pore has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Caleb Strong, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Lyons and Pratt should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. The Lions will challenge Republic County at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (94 vs. 223). Meanwhile, Pratt (ranked 17th) will meet Nickerson (ranked 199th) on Friday.
