Baseball Recap: Ludlow Wins Going Away Against Holmes

Ludlow got themselves on the board against Holmes on Thursday, but Holmes never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.

Parker Trenkamp was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ludlow is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-6 otherwise. Trenkamp was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Mays, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Ludlow is 5-2 when Mays posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Travis Turner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Ludlow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ludlow's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ludlow will square off against Owen County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Holmes, they will challenge Bracken County at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.75 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
