Basketball Recap: Thornton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hinkley last Monday, Thornton came back down to earth. The Thornton Trojans took a blow against the Skyview Wolverines on Tuesday, falling 66-23. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now lost seven in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Thornton lost, don't look at Victoria Perez. Despite the final result, she posted 13 points. Perez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Leila Estrada had a dynamite game for Skyview, going 6 of 8 on her way to 19 points. That's the most points Estrada has posted since back in December of 2023. Yzabella Tafoya was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Thornton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Skyview, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Thornton will venture away from home to face off against Adams City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Skyview, they will head out on the road to take on Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Skyview is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
