Baseball Game Preview: Centennial Eagles vs. Gresham Gophers

The Centennial Eagles will challenge the Gresham Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centennial will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Centennial took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against South Albany, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Redhawks 6-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Logan Landolt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aiden Welsick was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gresham). They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Parkrose on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Gophers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Gresham picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Centennial, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.

Centennial got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Gresham by a conclusive 18-4 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gophers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
