Baseball Recap: Geneva Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lakeside on Monday, Geneva came back down to earth. The Eagles lost 13-6 to the Dragons on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dragons earlier this season, when they won 17-2.

Bryce Junker was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Geneva: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-8 otherwise. Junker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Nick Kustala made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Sabin, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Geneva's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Lakeside, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 4-10 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Geneva will face off against Villa Angela-St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lakeside, they will square off against Harding at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
