Softball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Has No Trouble Against Dwyer

John Carroll Catholic won the last time they faced Dwyer and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Rams blew past the Panthers 8-2. Considering the Rams have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Makayla Ortiz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briley Orton, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Rychter, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

John Carroll Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dwyer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
