Softball Recap: South Amboy Has No Trouble Against Highland Park

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wardlaw Hartridge, South Amboy was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Highland Park Owls with a sharp 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Governors, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Hernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Leangeliz Deleon was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Deleon is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Gwen Kalantsis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

South Amboy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.

South Amboy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. South Amboy is set to take on their familiar foe South River at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Highland Park will challenge rival Timothy Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
