Basketball Recap: Lower Richland Picks Up 12th Straight Win on the Road

A well-balanced attack led Lower Richland over South Florence in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Lower Richland Diamond Hornets blew the South Florence Bruins out of the water with a 58-31 final score. The Diamond Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Lower Richland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jhnai Sumter led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Sumter has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Chi?Nya Isaac was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 16 points.

Lower Richland was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Florence only racked up five assists.

Despite the defeat, South Florence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Harmony Bostick almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 45.2% of South Florence's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevionne Hannah, who put up six points.

Lower Richland pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.1 points per game. As for South Florence, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

Lower Richland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-32 victory against A.C. Flora on the 18th. As for South Florence, they will head out on the road to face off against Hartsville at 3:00 p.m. on January 25th. South Florence is facing Hartsville at the right time seeing as Hartsville is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
